The RHT Rajan Menon Foundation enables RHTLaw Taylor Wessing and the RHT Group of Companies to do right and do good through various charitable endeavours. Since its inception, the Foundation has raised more than S$2 million to support its beneficiaries, and actively supports projects that meet the UN’s 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Notably, in a recent 2018 outreach programme, more than 500 kindergarten and primary school students in the rural areas of Vietnam were impacted and have benefitted from the upgrading of facilities. Another outreach programme benefitted an entire rural farming village in Lombok, where three bridges totalling 49 metres were built to replace unstable makeshift bridges that collapse at each monsoon season. This reduces the casualty rate and increases economic opportunities for their current and future generations. The Foundation also provides timely humanitarian aid when natural disaster strikes, having contributed temporary shelter as well as food supplies to the people of Lombok, and offering relief during the aftermath of the earthquakes and tremors experienced. Last but not least, the Foundation has embarked on a vocation training school project in Cambodia, to provide quality education, reduce poverty and promote socioeconomic development.
RHT RMF GAIL SUSTAINABILITY DAY
Through the Foundation’s initiatives and the course of RHT’s business, we have come to recognise the importance of sustainability to address climate change, adverse social and community impact as well as corporate governance issues. In response, the Foundation commissioned its sustainability initiative named GAIL (Greening ASEAN: Initiatives & Leadership) at the RHT ASEAN Summit 2018. GAIL’s aim is to facilitate relevant expertise, knowledge and practical measures to enable ASEAN companies to respond to the region’s growing call for sustainable development.
The inaugural RHT RMF GAIL Sustainability Day was held on Wednesday 26th June 2019, at Sentosa Golf Club. The trinity of events that took place, each representing one of the three spheres of Sustainability, are as follows:
